Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 August 2019, Uzbek Ambassador Ulugbek Rozukulov met with the elected Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia, Maruf Amin.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of Uzbek-Indonesian relations.
The elected Vice-President stressed that Uzbekistan is one of the cradles of Islamic civilization and the birthplace of outstanding historical figures of the world scale. Maruf Amin also noted the historical basis of bilateral cooperation, which serves as a reliable basis for giving a qualitatively new impetus to modern relations between the two friendly countries.
The Indonesian side was familiarized with the ongoing large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan in recent years. The Ambassador of Uzbekistan informed the Indonesian Vice President in detail about the state policy of our country in the preservation of historical heritage.
It is noted that in order to promote the tourist destination of Uzbekistan among the Indonesian population, in particular in the direction of "ziyorat tourism", Uzbekistan introduced a visa-free regime for Indonesian citizens from February 2018 and launched direct flights between the cities of Tashkent and Jakarta from May 2019.
At the meeting, the parties noted the existence of a huge unrealized economic potential between the two countries and agreed to intensify cooperation in this direction.
Following the talks, an agreement was reached to hold a regular meeting of the intergovernmental Commission on bilateral cooperation, cooperation in the field of "Halal" standards, increase tourism exchange through "ziyorat tourism", as well as to create favorable opportunities for business circles of Uzbekistan and Indonesia in the implementation of joint investment projects.
