Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Washington continues to comment on the results of the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov to the United States, held on 16-23 July 2019.
In particular, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) published a detailed press release on the results of the first meeting in the history of Uzbek-American relations with the USAID administrator. It was reported that the parties discussed a number of common development priorities, including health, education, trade and human rights.
It was emphasized that the head of the Agency also recognized the commitment of the Government of Uzbekistan to implement economic and judicial reforms and expressed optimism about the launch of new programs to support reforms in the field of education and energy, funded by USAID.
The report says that Administrator Mark Green and Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov also discussed ways to simplify the registration of independent non-governmental organizations. In addition, the administrator commended the efforts of the republic to increase trade with Afghanistan, and urged the Government of Uzbekistan to embrace legal changes in the reform agenda to promote and protect the rights to peaceful assembly and other human rights, in accordance with the international obligations of Uzbekistan. The administrator also stressed that the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan to ensure intellectual property rights will facilitate the country's accession to the World Trade Organization, while increasing the flow of foreign investment into the country.
In conclusion, Administrator Green acknowledged Uzbekistan’s significant efforts to curb forced labor, while emphasizing the need for further progress in promoting human rights and religious freedom, as well as countering trafficking in persons, since the country is included in the 2nd Category Special Observation List in the State Department’s annual report. human trafficking.
