AGMK reduces imports through its own innovation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A team of scientific and technical developments and the introduction of the Central Laboratory of Scientific Technologies of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AGMK) is a unique division, which is based on the ongoing work of engineering, innovation and invention. This allows to seriously reduce the import of the enterprise.
"About AGMK and other metallurgical enterprises, many people naively think that they are purchasing imported equipment, and if that, then foreign experts will repair it. It’s not at all like that. Our team not only repairs what is practically beyond repair, but also comes up with, how to make this or that part more convenient for our production and durable. At the same time, we are trying to reduce costs and, if possible, reduce imports," the team leader Stanislav Konovalov, who works at AGMK more 50 years, said.
According to him, all members of a small unit are well aware: if you do not repair and not make yourself, you will have to buy. And this, often, currency.
"We are trying to save currency for our plant. Here, for example, a Chinese-made MOF-2 press filter plate. It has failed channels for extracting copper concentrate fluid after a thickener, there are cracks in the membranes. Each plate has different malfunctions and degree wear, each requires an individual approach. We return them to a working condition, we have already repaired three pieces," the interlocutor said.
Much work has been done on the IOF vacuum filters. Previously, they were wooden, from February of this year they began to be made from used polymers.
"Our team made a complete set for one technological line - 200 pieces, and then transferred its technology to the Central Mechanical Repair Plant, where they are manufactured by request. It would seem that everything is simple, but for this it was necessary to make an installation for casting the enlarged weights from polymer and mold. We have already created several such plants, and they work not on primary polymers, but on used ones," said Konovalov.
The own plant also cast elevator buckets for transporting explosive mixtures. If this could not be done, he adds, then we would have to buy a new elevator, and this is imported equipment, and again a waste of foreign currency.
"The needs of the plant in various spare parts are enormous, and we are trying to set up their production. This is also the impeller for blowing electric motors, which from the factory go metal and are often not repairable, and we make them from waste material for six types of engines. Also, these are protective nets for electric motor covers, insulating joints of railway transport, which were previously bought, and now they are made by our technology in other divisions of the enterprise: we passed the plants, taught people,"- the head of the brigade underlined.
According to him, domestic experts have even improved the design of components made in Germany - the socket nozzle.
"We, having preserved the geometry, improved the design, made it more convenient for our production and adjusted their release from used polymers. Last year, we made terminal boxes of different types of motors, worked out the technology, made molds, cast, tested and passed to the Kalmakyr mine department,” Konovalov explained.
All this is done by local specialists - guys with golden hands, generalists working on any equipment. For example, they made an elementary service for the molding of polymer products, already used in production. Moreover, their installation can be easily put on stationary container waste sites, to adjust the sorting of plastic, which then immediately can be started up for recycling.
"I think that the work of our team already fully draws on the workshop, it becomes difficult to work due to lack of space - there are more and more details, there is no place to turn. Not to mention the fact that it is necessary to install equipment for at least partial automation of labor, but while the parts are hand-crafted. All of this is in the plans, and after modernization we will be able to further increase our efficiency and usefulness to the main production,” he concluded.
