The European Union to donate to the UN Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 15 July 2019, the head of the Mission of Uzbekistan to the European Union, Dilyor Khakimov, met with the main adviser on foreign policy issues to the President of the European Council, Rina Kionka.
During the conversation, the European side highly appreciated the results of the recent visit of the President of the European Council Donald Tusk to Uzbekistan and his talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during which they emphasized the establishment of constructive and productive practical interaction in political, trade and economic, innovation, scientific and technical, cultural and humanitarian and other areas.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the process of joint work on the draft Agreement on the expanded partnership and cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union. In particular, in the framework of the second round of negotiations on the draft document, held on 25-26 June in Brussels, the parties managed to agree on many of its important points. To continue the discussion it is planned to organize the next round in Tashkent.
Rina Kyonka stressed the EU’s interest in supporting the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region. In this regard, it was decided to allocate 5 million euros to finance projects under this fund.
The European side emphasized that the European Union attaches great importance to cooperation with Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries, as evidenced by the adoption on 17 June 2019 of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia.
