Startup Incubating Center launched in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 July 2019 Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Uzbekistan Office jointly with the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations and Keimyung College University of South Korea held an opening ceremony of Startup Incubating Center in Samarkand Vocational Training Center.
After completion of the joint project between KOICA and the Ministry of employment and labor relations titled: “Project for Capacity Building of Vocational Training Education in Samarkand region of the Republic of Uzbekistan”(2013-2016/6.4 mln USD), the Center continued to seek for new cooperation opportunities, and jointly with Keimyung College University of South Korea and KOICA started a new Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) project titled “Strengthening the Vocational Training Competency of Samarkand VTC to increase the income of trainees”. This new project with a budget of 1.14 mln USD will be implemented during 2019-2021.
Under this PPP project it is planned to establish two additional departments under Samarkand VTC: “Machine-building technologies” and “Computer design”, as well as open a Samarkand Start-up Incubating Center (SSIC).
The main goal of the SSIC is to share the experience of Korea in entrepreneurship, direct the youth to entrepreneurship and support them, and to attract Korean investors to participate in projects in Uzbekistan. The Incubating Center will conduct entrepreneurship programs for trainees, teachers and young entrepreneurs and it will assist employment opportunities through the establishment of NCS-based industrial demand customized employment processes and activation of business start-ups.
In his opening speech the Head of the Department for the Coordination of the National System for Assessment of Qualifications, Competence and Skills Mr. Mamarasulov F. stated that as of January-March 2019 the labor resources of the country make up 19 million persons, out of which 41% is youth. This once more confirms the important role of the young population in the development of country’s economic potential.
The President of Keimyung College University (KCU) Mr.Park Seungho thanked the organizers of the event and congratulated first residents of the Start-up Incubating Center. Mr.Park assured that KCU will make every effort for successful operations of the Incubating Center through customized entrepreneurship training programs, and thus strengthen the capacity of Samarkand VTC.
The Coordinator of KOICA WFK Program Ms.Park Hyemin congratulated the center with graduation of the 5th group trainees of Samarkand VTC and expressed a hope that today’s and future graduates of the center will become the leading specialists in their respective fields, such as Automobile, Electric Control, Welding and Plumbing, ICT and others, and that the center will do its best to supply skilled workforce necessary for the social and economic development of Uzbekistan.
