Uzbekistan and Russia to expand cooperation in the field of education

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation Botirjon Asadov and First Deputy Minister of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Umarov met with the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva in Moscow.
The meeting participants reviewed the current state and prospects for further development of relations of our states in the educational sphere. There was a constructive exchange of views on the signing of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Education of Russia, the project of which was initiated by the Uzbek side.
Olga Vasilyeva positively responded about the initiative of Uzbekistan to expand ties and reported on the readiness of the Russian partners to sign the said document after passing the internal approval procedures. The head of the ministry highly appreciated the level of knowledge of Uzbeks who have repeatedly become winners of international and all-Russian competitions in the Russian language.
During the meeting, the sides also talked about the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of assessing the educational achievements of students. The Russian partners expressed their readiness to provide active advisory support in this matter, including the conduct of international comparative studies PISA, TIMSS, TALIS in Uzbekistan. In particular, negotiations are underway to include Uzbekistan in the Russian Education Aid for Development (READ) program.
One of the main topics of the dialogue was the teaching of the Russian language in our republic. In this regard, O.Vasilyeva reported on the plans of the Ministry of Education to assist Uzbekistan in the training and retraining of teachers in the Russian language in educational institutions of Russia.
During the meeting, the Uzbek side put forward a proposal to open a branch in Tashkent of one of the Russian universities engaged in the training of specialists in the exact sciences. In addition, initiatives were announced to establish the exchange of experience and specialists, and to hold joint events.
In turn, the head of the Russian department invited representatives of Uzbekistan to take part in the Moscow International Salon of Education, which will be held from 10 to 13 April 2019, and the World Championship of professional skills WorldSkills in Kazan on 22-27 August 2019.
