Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 February 2019, a meeting with a group of students of the American University was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the USA, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
American University - one of the leading private international universities in the United States, founded in Washington, DC in 1983, trains specialists in international relations, economic development, sociology, and other areas. Among the graduates of the university are high-ranking officials of the US government, foreign countries, well-known journalists from leading international media, influential financiers and businessmen from various countries of the world.
The meeting at the Embassy was held on the initiative of the Uzbekistan Youth Association in the Americas (AMUSA), which was established in Washington in 2018 and brings together Uzbek youth by organizing joint cultural and educational events. AMUSA acts as a bridge between the universities of the two countries.
Ambassador Javlon Vakhabov spoke in detail about the historical and cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and its present day, including the activities of the Youth Union, the current reforms in the educational system, and the prospects for establishing inter-university cooperation with the United States.
The significant experience of cooperation with such leading foreign educational institutions as Turin Polytechnic University (Italy), Westminister University (Great Britain), Inha University (South Korea), Singapore University of Management, Moscow State University (Russia) and others are particularly noted. It was emphasized that the creation in Tashkent of a branch of Webster University, the first American university in the former Soviet Union, is a good indicator of the strengthening of Uzbek-American ties.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing a study tour to Uzbekistan of students of the American University from March 10 to March 17. The group is expected to represent more than 10 countries of the world.
The program for students in our country includes, in conjunction with the Union of Youth of Uzbekistan, a conference on the role of youth in diplomacy, a series of workshops on developing leadership skills, making effective decisions and instilling business skills among women entrepreneurs, meeting with representatives of Uzbek youth to exchange knowledge about world cultures and career growth, as well as negotiations with responsible representatives of the Center for Supporting Children and Young People with Disabilities. The organization of a study tour of the historical sights of Tashkent and Samarkand is also envisaged.
