Uzbek scientists bred new varieties of cotton

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Scientists of the Institute of Genetics and Plant Experimental Biology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan received a patent for new varieties of cotton Zangi-Ota-2, Ishonch and Zafar, the press service of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan said.
Studies have shown that the quality of fibers of new varieties in all respects meets the requirements of agro-industrial production.
The new promising cotton variety Zangi-Ota-2 differs from the standard variety in yield and fiber quality, adapted to different climatic conditions. Currently it breeds in an elite farm of preliminary breeding of Kashkadarya region. Plants have improved fiber performance and increased resistance to natural conditions.
The cotton variety “Ishonch” is fast-ripening and high-yielding. A distinctive feature of this variety is drought and salt tolerance. Currently, the variety is sown in Kashkadarya region, in the districts where there is a water deficit.
The promising cotton variety “Zafar” differs from the standard variety in fiber quality and early maturity. The variety is currently experimentally propagated in Kuva district of Fergana region.
