President of Uzbekistan pardons about 230 citizens

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On clemency of a group of persons serving a sentence of imprisonment, sincerely repented of their deed and firmly embarked on the path of correction” on 12 June.
The decree for the first time in connection with the sacred Ramadan hayit and in accordance with paragraph 23 of article 93 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan pardoned 226 citizens serving sentences in the form of imprisonment who, through ignorance, committed a crime, but have sincerely repented of their deed and firmly set out on the path of correction.
Of the pardoned 102 persons are released from punishment in full, 71 - parole is suspended on parole, the punishment appointed for 39 persons is replaced with a milder one, in other words, 212 persons are released from the penal institutions. In addition, the sentences in the form of deprivation of liberty, imposed on 14 persons, are reduced.
According to the document, 40 pardoned persons are persons over the age of 60, 39 - foreign citizens, 37 - women, 51 - persons who participated in the activities of banned organizations.
As part of the implementation of the decree, the responsible ministries and departments were instructed to assist pardoned persons in returning to their families and relatives, social adaptation, attraction to useful work, choosing a healthy lifestyle and occupying a worthy place in society.
