Uzbekistan, Turkey to develop pilgrimage tourism

Committee for Tourism Development of Uzbekistan, the Committee for Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan and the Office for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey signed a memorandum of cooperation on development of ziyorat (pilgrimage) tourism.
The document was signed within the framework of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Turkey to Uzbekistan.
The Memorandum presupposes a large-scale activity on popularizing tourist trips in order to make pilgrimage, increase the number of religious and educational events in tourism industry, as well as organize international events designed to bring the true humanitarian essence of Islam to the world community, preserve and study its rich heritage, spread teachings of Islam.
Within the framework of the memorandum it is also envisaged to exchange visits between the parties and provide information on tourism potential. In addition, information about the tourism potential will be distributed during religious events.
