Tashkent celebrates birthday of poet Robert Burns

On 25 January, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom in Uzbekistan Mr. Christopher Allan held Burns’ evening in Tashkent. This day, known as "The Evening of Burns", is considered one of the main national holidays of Scotland.
At the Burns Evenings, the memory of the poet is honored, his works are read, dances under traditional Scottish music and guests are treated to such traditional Scottish dishes as haggis (mutton scones stuffed with giblets and spices) and cookies (chicken and leek soup).
Over a hundred guests visited Burns’ evening in Tashkent, which provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about the life and work of Burns, about culture, food and drink, as well as about the literature and traditions of Scotland. During the evening, many poetry poems were read in which he expresses a great love for life, philanthropy, and encourages people to make the world better and more just.
