Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Afghanistan are planning to discuss implementation of the project on construction of a railway line from Mazar-e-Sharif to Herat.
According to Tolonews, this issue will be discussed during the visit of the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani to Uzbekistan. The website stated that cooperation in the field of railway communications will be one of the main topics of the talks during the visit of the head of Afghanistan to Uzbekistan.
During the visit of the President of Afghanistan to Uzbekistan, the parties plan to sign a memorandum of understanding on construction of the railway line.
Uzbekistan is interested in implementation of the project, the edition reported quoting to the railway administration of Afghanistan.
The deputy head of Afghanistan’s railway administration, Abdul Bari Seddiqi, said that implementation of the project will allow Uzbekistan to gain direct access to the ports of Iran.
He underlined that the project envisages construction of railway line from Mazar-e-Sharif to Herat. The railway line will pass through four regions of Afghanistan.
The project will increase trade between Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran and China. Another line will be built from Mazar-e-Sharif to Kunduz, the report said.
