Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Russia are studying issues of implementation of a number of major projects in various sectors of the economy.
The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov paid a working visit to Uzbekistan. During the visit, he discussed prospects for cooperation with members of the Government of Uzbekistan.
Denis Manturov held talks with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Nodir Otajonov, Minister of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev and Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdusalom Azizov, General Director of Uzbekistan Havo Yollari Ulugbek Rozukulov.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation noted that Uzbekistan today is one of the key partners of Russia among the Central Asian countries. In January-June 2017, the trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan increased by 20.7% compared to the same period of 2016, Russian exports - by 14.0%, imports - by 38.9% to US$476 million.
He stated that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia in the field of industry is actively developing. The sides successfully implemented projects in the automotive, agricultural machinery, heavy machinery, pharmaceuticals, light industry.
Uzbekistan and Russia are working out joint plans to localize production of GAZ, KAMAZ and UAZ vehicles. In particular, work is underway to organize assembly production of GM Uzbekistan and Uzavtosanoat cars in Russia.
The GAZ Group is also interested in organizing joint assembly production of its cars, including minibuses, in Uzbekistan. KAMAZ is interested in possibility of organizing a large-scale assembly of KAMAZ vehicles in Uzbekistan, including through the localization of separate units and elements of the KAMAZ chassis, as well as use of the superstructures of Uzavtotreyler.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Denis Manturov underlined that the excise tax rate at 70% for cars in Uzbekistan creates serious difficulties for Russian automakers.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia proposed to intensify cooperation in the field of the pharmaceutical industry. He noted that Russian producers are ready to fully meet Uzbekistan’s need for anti-tuberculosis and antiretroviral drugs, as well as start registration of antitumor drugs and other groups, if there is a need and interest.
Manturov added that the Russian side is ready to develop cooperation with local producers to organize joint production.
It was said that Uzbekistan and Russia are successfully cooperateing in the field of light industry. Imports from Uzbekistan increased by 58.9% in 2016, mainly due to the expansion of supplies of light industry goods, including cotton, yarn and knitwear, as well as food products.
During the meetings and negotiations, the parties discussed issues of organization of complex delivery of agricultural machinery to Uzbekistan, creation of a comprehensive service system and supply of spare parts for tractors, organization of training centers, retraining and advanced training of operating and maintenance personnel, as well as the organization of production of agricultural tractors based on Uzbek enterprises.
Denis Manturov said that Russia can discuss the possibility of providing financial instruments to Uzbekistan to purchase Russian machinery and investments in industrial construction and agro-industrial complex.
In addition, the sides discussed promising projects, realized in Uzbekistan to create industries in the field of heavy and oil and gas engineering, development of bilateral cooperation in the field of power engineering, including projects for construction and modernization of the thermal power plants.
Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation discussed implementation of the Program of measures to modernize and re-equip the armed forces of Uzbekistan with modern weapons and military equipment till 2020. Also, issues of supplying a wide list of military and special-purpose products in the interests of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard of Uzbekistan were also considered.
