Uzbek envoy holds meeting with Transport Minister of Latvia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Latvia Afzal Artykov held a meeting with the Ministry of Transport of Latvia Uldis Augulis.
During the meeting, the sides discussed current state and perspectives of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia.
Uldis Augulis proposed to increase number of flights on route Tashkent – Riga – New York. He noted that number of flights on this route will reach twice a week from summer season.
The sides underlined the growth of railway transportation by 16.9% in 2016 compared to 2015 and container transportation by 6%. Food, cotton and oil products were main transported goods.
Uzbek Ambassador Afzal Artykov said that 2016 was successful in the sphere of cargo transportation. He added that the sides have unused opportunities in the sector. In particular, the sides could increase the volume of transported goods due to textile industry.
Artykov called Latvia to unite efforts to develop close cooperation with China, pointing to opportunities on railway cargo transportation via Uzbekistan.
Latvian minister called Uzbekistan to use potential of Latvia to organize supplies of the Uzbek goods to Scandinavian states. Uzbek envoy said that the Uzbek companies are interested in use of Latvian ports.
