Dog handlers of law enforcement of Uzbekistan improve their skills

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15-17 November 2016, a three day training course for canine officers of border agencies of Uzbekistan will be held in Tashkent under the Border Management in Central Asia Programme (BOMCA) funded by the European Union.
Dog handlers from the State Border Protection Committee and Customs Committee of Uzbekistan will be able to perform their professional skills and study international best practices, as well as share their personal experience.
The training course will be run Jevgenijs Garkuls, Senior Inspector of the Dog Training Center of the Latvian State Border Guard College, During the event training participants will extend their theoretical knowledge on the issues of service dog training and practice related to breeding, selection and testing of police dogs, their senses cultivating, reflexes separation, instincts and methods of dogs training depending on animals’ age. Training will allow to develop professional capacity of canine officers of the two law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan.
First activities of the ‘Border Management Programme in Central Asia’ (BOMCA) Programme began in Central Asia in 2003. Since then, BOMCA has strengthened partnership of the Central Asia governments in the field of border management. The European Union allocated EUR 33.6 million to BOMCA for implementing programme activities in 2003 – 2014, and almost EUR 5 million for its 9th phase (2015 - 2018).
The overall objective of the current phase of the Programme is to increase effectiveness and efficiency of border management in Central Asia that will be reached by introducing advanced elements of the Integrated Border Management (IBM), assisting governments in developing and reforming their migration governance, mobility and trade facilitation policies and strengthening capacities of Border and Migration Agencies.
