Over 5,000 people visit First Touch Math Festival

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First Touch Math Festival completed with success at the Inha University in Tashkent as over 5,000 people visited the event, the university said in a statement.
The Festival took place in Tashkent from 6 to 8 January 2016. Inha University in Tashkent and Inha University in South Korea organized the festival at the support of the chair of supermarkets Korzinka.uz and Uzbektelecom.
Over 20 math teachers from South Korea arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the First Touch Festival. During the festival, they presented various puzzles, tasks and excises. Children also created various geometric figures and participated in the math quizzes. The winners of the quizzes received prizes.
During three days, over 5,000 people visited Uzbekistan. Among the visitors were children at the age of 3 to adults at the age of 80. Success of the festival can be also rated with feedbacks of the visitors. The children and adults left their comments and feedbacks in special wall.
“Thank you for the festival. It is very interesting and informative for adults and children,” one of the feedbacks reads. Fazilat, one of the visitors, wrote: “I liked very much. Organize such events frequently.” Majority of the visitors noted that they had a great time and are happy that they visited the event.
The guests of the South Korea were also excited from the festival. They were amused with large number of visitors. They underlined that children, parents and their teachers were ready to learn.
The participants of the festival took part in the lectures of the Inha University in South Korea Hoon Chang. During his presentation, Mr Chang showed that all people face mathematics in their daily life. The second lecture of Professor Hoon Chang was devoted to hypercube. During the lecture, he briefed the participants on characteristics of the 3D cube.
Local math lovers also supported the idea of the festival. Leading specialist of ZiyoNET Evgeniy Sklyarevskiy organized a lecture titled “Math – this is interesting!”.
The “Hour of coding” became one of the hits of the festival. The organizers were planning to hold two free lessons on visual programming on Scratch for 80 children, but over 160 children expressed their wish. In the result, the organizes adopted a decision to hold two more lessons. Those, who cannot participate in the events, can participate in Codecraft.uz lessons.
Inha University in Tashkent summed up the results of the Math Teachers Contest, which was held among math teachers of schools, lyceums and colleges.
According to the competition criteria, participants had to solve the problems prepared by professors of IUT in English. South Korean specialists of Inha University in Tashkent assessed the works, submitted to the contest.
In line with the decision of the jury, Elizaveta An, a teacher of academic lyceum of Westminster International University in Tashkent, won the first place and tablet computer.
The second place and smartphone went to a teacher of academic lyceum of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sardorbek Pirnapasov.
Oybek Sharapov won the third place. He works as a teacher of the Academic Lyceum No. 3 of Kitab city (Kashkadarya region). He received external hard disk as a prize.
The festival provided all participants a unique opportunity to see wonders and magic of mathematics, but also touch and participation in creation of math exhibits and as a result to feel math with mind, heard and hands.
Professor of Inha University in Tashkent Jeanam Park said: “Over 5,000 people visited the festival within three days. The figure exceeded our expectations. Judging by the feedbacks, the visitors were satisfied. I think we achieved our goal.”
