Uzbekistan introduces fine for smoking in public places

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan introduced a fine for smoking in public places. The Government of Uzbekistan also increases the size of fines for consumption of alcohol in public places.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan” on 29 December 2015, which introduced changes to the Code of administrative responsibility.
Legislative Chamber of oily Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 27 November. Senate passed the document on 4 December. It came into force on 30 December 2015.
According to the amendments to the Code of administrative responsibility, consumption of tobacco products in work places, healthcare, education, sport-rehabilitation facilities, places with fire risks, including gasoline stations and other public places punished with a fine at the size of 1/3 sizes of minimal salary.
The smoking is allowed at specially allocated places and rooms at the public places.
The Government of Uzbekistan also increased the size of fines for smoking in trains, river ships, buses, taxis and electric transport from 1/20 to 1/3 sizes of minimal salary.
The law also increased fines for consumption of alcohol products in public places. The size of fine is now equal to 1/2 sizes of minimal salary. If the violation is repeated within a year, the fine will make up from 1/2 to 2 sizes of minimal salary or administrative arrest up to 15 days.
Consumption of alcohol products is allowed at wedding, jubilee and other solemn ceremonies, trade and catering points, which have permission to sell alcohol products.
