Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov held negotiations with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Tashkent on 17 November 2015.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif arrived in Uzbekistan on 17 November with a two-day official visit on invitation of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
The official ceremony of welcoming Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was held at the presidential residence Kuksaray. The guard of honor was lined up to welcome the honorary guest. Islam Karimov and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif reviewed the guard of honor.
Afterwards Islam Karimov and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held negotiations. The sides discussed current state and perspectives of further developing of cooperation between two states, strengthening regional security.
Uzbek leader said that Uzbekistan sees in the face of Pakistan not only historically close neighbor, but also a country which, thanks to its enormous political, economic, military-technical and human potential, favorable geopolitical position, balanced foreign policy today plays a leading role in regional politics, solving major international problems.
Islam Karimov said that current visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Uzbekistan considers as important new stage in long-term Uzbek-Pakistani relations and evidence for readiness of the sides to continue open and trustful dialogue at high level on actual issues of bilateral, regional and international character and give additional impulse to multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Islam Karimov and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif paid special attention to situation in Afghanistan, which plays important role for further developing cooperation. The sides noted that conflict in Afghanistan should be solved with peaceful political negotiations under aegis of the UN and truce.
The sides also considered issues of strengthening regional security, fighting terrorism, extremism and illegal drug trafficking.
The sides exchanged opinion on issues of further developing trade-economic, investment and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
At the talks, it was stated that current level of trade turnover does not meet potential of economies and existing opportunities of two states. The sides discussed issues of using untapped potential, increasing volume and diversifying nomenclature of mutual trade.
The leaders of two states reached agreement to boost work of the Uzbek-Pakistani intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation and hold its regular meeting.
The sides underlined that gradual development of relations between Uzbekistan and Pakistan meets long-term interests of both states and positively strengthen security, development of trade-economic, communication and humanitarian relations in the region as a whole.
In the result of the talks, Islam Karimov and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif signed a joint declaration. The countries also signed several documents on expanding bilateral trade relations, creation of additional preferences in tax spheres, strengthening cooperation between Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
The official visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to Uzbekistan is continuing.
