Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An Uzbek-Japanese Business Forum was held in Tashkent on 7 August 2014 within the delegation of business circles of Japan led by Vice President of Marubeni Corporation Mamoru Sekiyama to Uzbekistan.
Representatives of ministries, departments, associations and companies of Uzbekistan and Japan participated in the event.
During the forum, the Japanese delegation familiarized with the economic and investment potential of Uzbekistan, perspective projects in oil and gas, petrochemical, electrotechnical and ICT spheres.
The participants also discussed perspectives of bilateral cooperation in various sectors of economy, investment potential of Uzbekistan and opportunities for investment cooperation, including within the free industrial and economic zone Navoi and special industrial zone Angren.
The sides underlined interest in increasing the volume and diversification of the structure of bilateral trade.
On the same day, the cooperation exchange with participation of several enterprises and companies of Uzbekistan and Japan was held.
Uzbekistan, being strategic partner of Japan, pays great attention to development of cooperation with the country, financial-economic assistance of which played a key role in development of Uzbekistan.
Trade turnover between two states reached US$215 million. Total volume of financial-technical assistance of the Japan Government exceeds US$2 billions.
Japanese companies participate in large-scale projects in Uzbekistan, including in construction of booster station at Kokdumalok field and Bukhara Refinery, reconstruction of Ferghana Refinery, modernization of airports in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Urgench.
Currently, the Japanese companies are participating in electrification railway Qarshi-Termez, expansion of Navoi thermal power station and modernization of Talimarjan thermal power station. The projects on energy, machinery, electrotechnical and other sectors are underway.
There are 12 enterprises with participation of Japanese capital, including one with 100% Japanese capital. They work in such areas as trade operations, transport, tourism and healthcare services, machinery and metal processing, light industry.
About 11 Japanese firms and companies accredited in Uzbekistan.
