Petrovietnam starts exploration at new block in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Petrovietnam Exploration & Production (PVEP) started to implement a programme of exploration at Molabaur investment block of Ustyurt region in northern-western Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti reported quoting source at Kossor Operating Company, operator of PVEP projects in Uzbekistan.
The company said that the tender was announced on processing of 2D seismic station. Its results will be summed up in March. So, the company started to implement exploration programme at the block. By the end of 2014, it is planned to hold seismic works, the volume of which was not disclosed.
In June 2012, PVEP and Uzbekneftegaz signed an agreement on holding exploration works at Molabaur investment block in next five years with total areas of 3,600 km. The volume of investments will make up US$61.6 million.
Kossor Operating Company also carries out exploration at another block at Ustyurt region – Kossor. In February 2010, PVEP and Uzbekneftegaz inked an agreement on main principles of holding exploration works within the five years at Kossor investment blocks with investments of US$29.4 million.
Currently, the 2D seismic exploration works were conducted at licensed area with total volume of 886 km, revision works at the volume of about 2,000 square meters and conducts tests of the wells at the depth of about 4,000 meters.
In 2010, PVEP and Uzbekneftegaz signed a memorandum, in line with which PVEP will study opportunity to carry out exploration works for oil and gas at Bukhara-Khiva region of Uzbekistan.
