Karakalpakstan adopts measures to develop cattle breeding

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Some 221 of 261 projects on developing cattle breeding, poultry, fishing and beekeeping within the territorial development programme for 2013 were successfully implemented in Karakalpakstan in eight months of 2013.
According to Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Karakalpakstan, about 120 projects with 3,444 cows were implemented in cattle breading sector and about 13.761 billion soums were used to realize the projects. The banks issued 10.163 billion soums to implement these projects and helped to provide jobs to 375 people.
Successful implementation of all 148 projects in 2013 will help to increase number of cattle head in Karakalpakstan to 867,000, of which 265,500 heads will be cows, Pravda Vostoka newspaper reported.
At the same time, number of sheep and goats should reach 876,300 heads by the end of 2013, which will grow by 4.5% compared to the end of 2012.
Number of poultry will make up 3.06 million heads, which will grow by 20% year-on-year. Number of bees will grow by 7%. Development of fishing will result in production of 2,560 tonnes of fresh fish, which will increase by 40% year-on-year.
In the first half of 2013, about 34 projects on developing poultry for 2.708 billion were implemented in Karakalpakstan, 43 projects in fishing – 1.28 billion soums and 24 projects in beekeeping – 286 million soums.
