Uzbek delegation visits Seattle to mark 40th anniversary of Tashkent-Seattle sister city relationship

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23-28 June, an Uzbek delegation from Tashkent, headed by Deputy Mayor Ikrombek Berdibekov, visited Seattle, Washington, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Seattle’s relationships with its Sister City Tashkent.
The members of the delegation attended meetings at the Seattle City Council and met with the Mayor of Seattle. They also met with the Trade Development Alliance to discuss job creation and how to attract investment, as well as how to build public and private partnerships. The Uzbek delegation also met with the City’s Department of Transportation and Department of Parks and Recreation to talk about street maintenance, beautification, and public parks.
During the visit, Seattle’s City Council proclaimed June 24 Seattle-Tashkent City Day, and the Mayor of Seattle and nine Councilmembers signed the proclamation.
The relationship between Seattle and Tashkent was formalized in 1973. Since then, more than one hundred delegations, tours, and meetings to establish, cultural, educational, professional, and business exchanges and opportunities between the two cities have occurred. A U.S. delegation under the leadership of Dan Peterson, Chairman of Seattle-Tashkent Sister Cities Association, will visit Uzbekistan in August-September of this year.
Seattle is the hub of a metropolitan area of 3.5. million people in the Northwestern part of the United States of America and is a recognized progressive leader in business, culture, and education.
