Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev signed an agreement on strategic partnership on 14 June 2013.
The agreement was signed within an official visit of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev to Uzbekistan.
Today, Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan held a face-to-face meeting and later negotiations were continued with participation of the delegations.
At the talks, the sides considered issues of deepening bilateral cooperation and exchanged opinion on actual regional and international issues. In particular, they considered situation in Afghanistan.
After the negotiations, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed four bilateral documents.
In particular, the Presidents of two states signed the agreement on strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan and Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan signed a protocol on organization of exchange on primary information on goods and vehicles, moving through customs borders.
Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs of Uzbekistan and Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan signed a programme of cooperation in culture for 2013-2015. Ministries of Interior Affairs of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan also signed an agreement of cooperation.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev underlined their satisfaction with the result of the negotiations.
Uzbek President Islam Karimov said that a large complex of regional and international was discussed within the visit of his Kazakh counterpart to Tashkent. First of all, he said, the sides considered wide-scale bilateral cooperation.
President Islam Karimov said that both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have common approach or close views on majority of considered issues and are ready to solve common tasks in cooperation.
He said that Tashkent and Astana have common approach to situation in Afghanistan. Uzbek leader said that Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan affirmed their readiness to adopt necessary practical measures and coordinate efforts in preserving peace and stability in the region, sustainable development of national economies and raising prosperity of people.
Islam Karimov said that Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are not competitors and they will not compete in near future. He said that both countries have various conditions and absolutely different natural resources and nature, as well as other resources. Uzbekistan is one of leader on cotton production, while Kazakhstan – in grain production.
According to the Uzbek President, the meeting was fruitful and its results are important for further developing close interaction between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which connected with each other with history.
He said that the agreement on strategic partnership reflects main priorities of long-term and mutual beneficial partnership in such spheres as economy and culture.
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov underlined that the bilateral relations between two states are developing gradually.
He said that despite global economic crisis with unpredictable perspectives, trade turnover between two nations showed the growth. In 2012, it rose by 9.6% to US$2.7 billion. He said that this shows that there is good potential and the countries should work further to increase it.
Uzbek President underlined that it is necessary to further diversify trade turnover and expressed his assurance that the visit of Nursultan Nazarbaev will be successful and fruitful.
In his turn, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev expressed his satisfaction with the negotiations with Islam Karimov. He said that wide-range issues were discussed at the talks. He said the sides considered almost all issues. “Yesterday, we held face-to-face talks and today in narrow format”, he said.
Kazakhstan pays a special attention to relations with brotherhood Uzbekistan and considers the country as strategic partner in the Central Asian region, Kazakh President. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are key states, which ensure peace, security, trade and growth of well-being in the region, Nazarbaev stated.
He said that Uzbekistan is the largest state in the region, possessing huge cultural-historic traditions, which impacts all cultural layer of the Central Asian region.
Kazakh leader said that the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan differs with constructive approach to solving all issues. He said that the sides understand well that safety and prosperity of the region mainly depends on interaction and single position of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
