Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 5,000 citizens of Uzbekistan will perform Hajj this year, the press service of the Committee on religious affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan said.
The committee said that 12uz.com website reported on 7 June that number of Hajj pilgrims from Uzbekistan can be cut by 20% this year.
The reported cited letter from Saudi Arabia to Spiritual Department of Kyrgyzstan, which said that quota for Kyrgyz pilgrims, as well as other countries, will be cut by 20% due to reconstruction works at airports of Jeddah and Medina.
The Committee on religious affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan said it did not receive any letters from Saudi Arabia and preparation to Hajj-2013 season is underway as planned. The Committee said in line with plans and agreements with Saudi side, over 5,000 Uzbek citizens will perform Hajj pilgrimage this year.
Currently, the committee said that the pilgrims are paying fees for Hajj.
