Modernization of Syrdarya power station to start in August

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russia’s Siloviye Mashini (Power Machines) will begin modernization of Syrdarya thermal power station, a largest thermal power station in Central Asia, in August 2013.
Prime agency reported quoting source at Uzbekenergo that the order for equipment was placed and currently the equipment is under production. The first part will arrive in Uzbekistan in July and the modernization of station will start in August.
In March, Siloviye Mashini and Uzbekenergo signed a contract on designing and installation of equipment “on turnkey bases” to reconstruct two power generation facilities with capacity of 300 megawatt each. During the reconstruction, it is planned to increase its capacity by 50 megawatt. The reconstruction works will be completed in the first quarter of 2014.
The project cost is US$60.2 million and it will be financed due to loan of Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and own resources of Uzbekenergo.
Syrdarya thermal power station has been commission in 1981 and its capacity is 3,000 megawatts (10 generation blocks with the capacity of 300 megawatt each). The station produces 13 billion K.W.H. electricity a year.
