Electrification of Marokand-Karshi railroad to be completed in 2014

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Temir Yollari state joint stock company is planning to complete a project on electrification of railroad Marokand – Karshi in 2014, a press secretary of the company Suvankul Rustamov said.
In the article at the Narodnoye Slovo newspaper, he said that railroads Marokand – Karshi and Karshi – Termez will be electrified in near future.
Suvankul Rustamov said these projects will also fully help to electrify new railroad Tashguzar – Baisun – Kumkurgan, large railroads.
He said that implementation of the projects will link Tashkent with southern city of Uzbekistan - Termez. The electrification of the roads will speed up transportation time, save fuel and improve security. It will also increase the capacity of the line 2.5-3 times.
He wrote that Uzbek leader demanded to speed up implementation of these projects. Uzbekistan railway reconsidered its opportunities and now plans to complete the project Marakand – Karshi in 2014, a year ahead of schedule, Rustamov said.
In 2011, the feasibility studies of the projects “Electrification of railroad Marokand-Karshi” (140 km) and “Electrification of railroad “Karshi-Tashguzar-Boisun-Termez” (325 km) were completed. Total length of the railroad line makes up 466.5 km.
Uzbekistan temir yollari attract loan of the Government of Japan for US$211 million to implementation of the project on electrification of railroad Karshi-Termez.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will issue loan for US$100 million to the second project on electrification of Marokand-Karshi railroad.
