Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems OJSC said its Uzbek branch, MTS-Uzbekistan (former Uzdunrobita) increased its subscribers’ base by 4.5% in the end of July compared to June.
The number of mobile communication subscribers in Uzbekistan rose 38% to 3.744 million people in January-June, the press office of Communications and Information Agency of Uzbekistan said Friday.
Paynet increased number of its payment acceptance points to 1,500 as of 1 August 2007, the company said.
In the first half of 2007 the market growth rate slowed by 14.6 percentage points compared to the observations for the same period of the previous year. Thus, in the first six months of 2007 the number of mobile subscribers increased by 37.6% to 3.74 million compared to 52.2% in the first half of 2006.

TeliaSonera acquired 100 percent of the shares in MCT, a US based company with majority controlling shareholdings in three Eurasian GSM operators in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and a small minority interest in the leading GSM operator in Afghanistan, for an enterprise value of approximately SEK 2.0 billion (US$300 million).
