Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- For many years, Japan has been supporting Uzbekistan in the sustainable development of the economy and public administration. One example of Japan’s assistance is providing the necessary funding to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree in English in Japanese universities for young civil servants, on whom the future of Uzbekistan depends. This project is a gratuitous financial aid and is called The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS).
On 4 July 2022, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Yoshinori Fujiyama and the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Abdukodir Toshkulov signed Exchange Notes for the project "Providing Scholarships for Personnel Training" in the amount of 298 million yens (about US$2.76 million), which is carried out within the framework of the gratuitous assistance program of the Government of Japan. Also, the Minister Mr. Toshkulov and the Head of the JICA Office in Uzbekistan Mr. Suguru MIYAZAKI signed the Grant Agreement for this project.
Through the JDS project, in 2023, young civil servants of the Republic will have the opportunity to study in Japan with a maximum of 18 scholarship holders in the graduate programs and 1 scholarship holder in the doctoral studies. It is expected that the implementation of the project will allow young professionals responsible for the future of Uzbekistan to acquire professional knowledge and apply it for the economic and social development of the country, deepen their knowledge of Japan, and promote the development of friendly relations between Japan and Uzbekistan.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Uzbekistan. To further develop bilateral relations, the Government of Japan will continue to work on developing human resources in Uzbekistan and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries.
