Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The future of Uzbekistan if it stays on that track will be quite bright, Kaan Terzioğlu, the chief executive officer of the VEON group of companies, told the British publication FT. It should be underlined that VEON is the owner of Unitel LLC (trademark Beeline Uzbekistan) and a major foreign investor in the country’s telecommunications market.
The FT article notes that thanks to a reform program aimed at liberalizing the economy, Uzbekistan continues to attract the attention of investors despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Experts agree that early reforms — such as liberalisation of the currency market, reforms to the tax system, and better data gathering and publishing — have been effective.
Commenting on the reforms in Uzbekistan, Kaan Terzioğlu, Chief Executive Officer of VEON Group of Companies, noted: “I see competent government officials, running the business in a very fast way, open to dialogue, listening to the enterprises and really making the right steps in terms of liberalisation of the economy.”
“I believe the future of Uzbekistan, if it stays on that track, will be quite bright. It is a point of stability in the region, it has a very strong vision in terms of liberalisation of its key industries and amazing investment in education,” added Kaan Terzioğlu.
It should be underlined that VEON is a global provider of telecommunications and Internet services with over 213 million subscribers in 9 countries. In Uzbekistan, the company owns Unitel LLC, which provides services under the Beeline Uzbekistan trademark.
Beeline Uzbekistan employs about 1,600 employees. Since 2006, upon entering the Uzbek market, VEON has invested more than US$1.2 billion in the country’s telecommunications industry. During its activity under the Beeline trademark in Uzbekistan, over US$1.7 billion has been paid in taxes.
