Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the head of the upper chamber of parliament Tanzila Narbaeva met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Gunther Leo Overfeld.
During the conversation, the state and prospects for the development of cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
“Germany is considered an important partner of Uzbekistan,” said Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. - The official visits of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier to our country have become significant events in the foreign policy of our country. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the two states have established trade, economic, political, socio-cultural relations. Inter-parliamentary relations are also developing, but the opportunities are not fully used. It is necessary to strengthen ties, which play an important role in the early ratification of international treaties in all areas. The recently adopted Resolution of the head of state "On measures for the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2020-2023", which approved a program for the development of each region. We are interested in attracting foreign investment to Karakalpakstan. Therefore, on 20-25 December, we invited all ambassadors in foreign countries, including in your country, to visit Karakalpakstan, get acquainted and develop the necessary measures. The participation of Germany in the elaboration of issues on the development of regions of Karakalpakstan is important for us, especially since the implementation of several projects in this direction has already been planned.
It was noted that Germany has remained one of the most reliable and proven partners for many years. Bilateral relations are formed on a solid foundation and are traditionally confidential. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two republics, a huge amount of work has been done to strengthen the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian dialogues.
In recent years, cooperation in many areas has noticeably intensified. The established political mutual trust between states serves as the basis for partnership and strengthening of mutual relations.
- Our countries have established cooperation in many areas, including the export of cotton yarn to Germany, as well as the prompt exchange of necessary information to further increase the volume of supplies, - said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany Gunther Overfeld. In addition, within the framework of cooperation, Germany has allocated 180 million euros for two years, which are aimed at developing health care and other areas in the context of a pandemic. In the second half of 2021, it is planned to open a training center in Termez to train and improve the skills of both domestic and nurses from Afghanistan. Also, within the framework of the next project, 10 million euros will be allocated for the development of public administration, including strengthening the role of women in it.
The meeting noted the progress made by Uzbekistan in the issues of forced labor in the cotton harvest, which is now recognized as unacceptable and not used. Moreover, measures taken at the legislative level will contribute to their complete eradication. One of the important areas of interaction between the two countries is trade and economic partnership. During the meeting, the issue of expanding the export of textile products to the EU markets was considered.
The parties agreed to strengthen relations and establish close cooperation.
