Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 October 2020, the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Women and Gender Equality, together with the Ministry for Support of Mahalla and Family, held a round table, during which they discussed issues of supporting labor migrants working abroad, especially youth and women.
It was noted that today labor migration is an important component of global development and, at the same time, it is also a serious problem from an international point of view. According to the UN, the number of people living outside their country has tripled over the past 50 years.
Large-scale work is also being carried out in Uzbekistan to regulate relations in this direction and to solve existing problems. In particular, the issues of comprehensive support for women living abroad, as well as family members of labor migrants, are generally considered important issues.
The relevant structures operating in our country are also actively working in this direction. In particular, the Agency for External Labor Migration studied the appeals of labor migrants received on the Agency's electronic platform birgamiz.com, which was launched with the aim of social protection of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan who find themselves in a difficult financial situation abroad due to the spread of COVID-19. 753 migrants in the manner prescribed by law received appropriate financial assistance through the international money transfer system. With the intervention of the representative offices, the wages of labor migrants were collected from employers in the amount of US$378,000.
In addition, the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality provides comprehensive assistance in solving the problems of women migrants on the basis of complaints from citizens. On the ground, together with local Kengashes, monitoring of the system of work with returned women migrants was ensured. In particular, parliamentary control is established over the work carried out with women who are included in the "iron notebook" and "women's notebook". In addition, various events are being held to draw attention to the problem of responsible workers and the public.
The round table discussed important issues related to strengthening interaction in this direction. Various proposals have been made on this issue.
