Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 27 October 2020, the Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) hosted a solemn ceremony of transferring the first mobile clinic from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The ceremony was attended by: Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare, Irina Bragina; Strategic Information Advisor Acting Lev Zagrobyan, UNAIDS Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia; Alexander Musienko, Deputy Director of the Third Department of the CIS Countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry; Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation Botirjon Asadov.
In her welcoming speech, Irina Bragina noted that the Republic of Uzbekistan is one of the key partners in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, with which the Russian Federation has long-term fruitful relations and joint research projects in the field of prevention and control of infectious diseases, in particular with plague, measles, rubella, HIV, viral hepatitis and other infections.
“Our work in today’s conditions of the novel coronavirus infection pandemic is more relevant than ever. We continue our interaction to combat COVID-19 and fully support the efforts of the Uzbek authorities aimed at the earliest possible normalization of the epidemic situation in the country, and we assure that Russia is ready to provide the necessary assistance,” she stressed.
The transfer of the mobile clinic took place within the framework of the Technical Assistance Program to the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia in the field of prevention, control and surveillance of HIV / AIDS and other infectious diseases. The implementation of the Program has been organized by UNAIDS, Rospotrebnadzor and the AIDS Infosvyaz Foundation on the basis of the order of the Government of the Russian Federation since 2013. The goal of the Program is to support health systems in Eastern Europe and Central Asia in ensuring effective control over the spread of HIV / AIDS and other infectious diseases.
Speaking about the Program, Lev Zagrobyan on behalf of UNAIDS noted that the Program is of great importance for the regional and global response to HIV. It helps to create effective epidemiological control systems, promote and implement evidence-based approaches to prevention and treatment, and provide prevention and treatment services to key populations, including migrants, their families, and other members of key populations. “Today we see how the mobile laboratories transferred by the Government of the Russian Federation to the countries of the program, not only continue to work on the provision of healthcare services in connection with HIV infection, but also entered the front line in the fight against a new threat - the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.”
To date, 12 mobile clinics have already been delivered to the countries - 4 to the Republic of Tajikistan, 3 to the Republic of Armenia and 5 to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. They specialize in the provision of primary health care, as well as the provision of a range of services related to screening for HIV, COVID-19, viral hepatitis, STIs, obstetric and gynecological care, cardiology and urology. All mobile complexes provide services to the population free of charge. During the work of the Program, more than 1.6 million people have used the services of clinics.
In response, Botirjon Asadov, on behalf of the Republic, thanked the Government of the Russian Federation for its contribution to countering epidemics and contributing to improving the quality of life and well-being of citizens. “Today’s ceremony organically fits into a series of events organized within the framework of Uzbek-Russian cooperation in the field of healthcare. It is gratifying to emphasize that this mobile clinic is the first such complex transferred to our Republic. Thanks to this project, citizens of Uzbekistan living in various regions of the Republic will be able to receive timely information about the symptoms, transmission routes of infectious diseases, which has become an important component of our life today.
