Uzbekistan to introduce mechanisms for ensuring gender equality among judges

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In accordance with the action plan for the implementation of the tasks identified at the video conference chaired by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 30 v 2020, the Commission on Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and gender equality, the Supreme Court and the Supreme Judicial Council developed and signed a program of joint actions to introduce mechanisms for ensuring gender equality among judges.
This document identifies measures to monitor the state of gender equality in the judicial system, to attract young women with higher legal education, women judges to the judicial system, and to expand knowledge on gender issues among court staff and candidates for judges.
In addition, among the main directions of the Program, such measures are identified as the study of documents of previously working women judges and the recommendation of candidates recognized as worthy for the position of judges, the establishment of gender rules in the ethical code of judges, the creation of favorable working conditions for women judges, and their strengthening. social protection and prevention of workplace violence against women in the judiciary.
On 10 August, a constructive dialogue was also held between the Commission on Gender Equality, the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Oliy Majlis and the Supreme Court, the US Agency for International Development (USAID / Uzbekistan), a joint project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) " Cooperation for the rule of law in Uzbekistan ”. During the dialogue, plans were discussed to include in this Program additional measures to increase the representation of women judges.
Corresponding work is being carried out in this direction. In particular, the specialists of the joint project prepared an analytical guide aimed at further increasing the role of women in the judicial system. Analytical studies were carried out in such areas as the development and implementation of gender indicators to assess the effectiveness of the courts in the field of ensuring and protecting women's rights, as well as conducting gender-legal expertise in the legislation of Uzbekistan.
In general, the new adopted document will become a program for achieving gender equality in the judicial and legal sphere of our country.
