WHO delivers another consignment of humanitarian cargo to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The European Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), with the assistance of the WHO Representative Office in Uzbekistan, delivered another consignment of humanitarian cargo to the Republic of Uzbekistan, purchased by the WHO Headquarters through the global Fund for Solidarity and Response to COVID-19 on total amount of about US$300,000. This time, 500 oxygen concentrators were delivered from Istanbul by flight. At the end of the week, another shipment is expected to arrive, consisting of consumables needed for the labs.
- Since the beginning of the pandemic, the WHO Representation, together with the UN partner agencies in Uzbekistan, has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and the Service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health. The provision of the necessary equipment and protective equipment is part of the support provided to the country. In addition, WHO pays great attention to improving the qualifications of doctors, nurses and other health workers, training laboratory staff, assisting in the development of treatment protocols using international experience, free access to constantly updated international information on coronavirus infection, Dr. Liane Kuppens, head of the WHO Representative Office in the Republic of Uzbekistan, explained.
The World Health Organization regularly dispatches humanitarian supplies to Tashkent. So, in July, three cargoes were delivered to the country for a total amount of more than US$4 million. The first, including 619,400 face shields and 2,176,000 surgical masks, arrived on 8 July. On 17 July, personal protective equipment for medical workers was received: 95,200 goggles, 178,000 protective coveralls, 12,000 medical masks and 1,064,000 KN95 respirators. On 24 July, 38,400 test systems and other laboratory equipment were delivered to the capital of Uzbekistan.
Equipment and protective equipment were transferred to the Ministry of Health and the Service for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health.
