Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) and Interpol have reported an increase in the likelihood of fraud by providing false information about the sale of surgical masks and other items that are most in demand due to the situation with COVID-19 medical purpose.
According to the notice, during this crisis in the healthcare sector, the public must be careful when purchasing medicines online, otherwise they may provide an opportunity for criminals to carry out a number of financial frauds.
To this end, fraudsters use fake online stores, websites, social media accounts and email addresses by providing for sale the above goods.
The main victims of these fraudulent activities were located in Asia, and criminals use bank accounts registered in other regions, especially in Europe, to prove themselves reliable exporters in this field.
The Department for Combating Economic Crimes asks you not to rush to transfer money, and also to follow the following recommendations:
- read the comments on the activities of companies offering their services for the implementation of online procurement (whether there are complaints from other customers about not providing the goods they bought);
- not to make a purchase if it is requested to make a payment to a bank account opened not in the country where the company is located, but in another country;
- do not open links or applications that came from an unknown sender or which you did not expect;
- do not provide information in emails that offer medical equipment or require your personal information for a medical examination.
The Department for Combating Economic Crimes at the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan asks citizens to be vigilant so as not to be a victim of fraudsters.
