Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - It is known that on 31 December 2019, Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, located in the central part of the country. The first cases of infection are associated with the local wholesale market, which sold seafood.
On 7 January 2020, Chinese experts established the causative agent of the disease - this is 2019-nCoV coronavirus.
According to information on 20 January, the Chinese authorities officially confirmed the presence of 224 cases of pneumonia caused by coronavirus. According to the municipal health committee, the death toll from this disease has reached four.
Unfortunately, the virus managed to go beyond China. On 20 January, in South Korea, the first case of a new coronavirus was revealed, a Chinese woman turned out to be a sick woman. Also confirmed cases of infection are recorded in Thailand and Japan.
In addition, Chinese authorities have confirmed that a new type of pneumonia is transmitted from person to person (it was previously said that the disease is not transmitted in this way). Confirmation of this fact was the infection of at least 14 medical workers from infected with a new type of coronavirus.
WHO convenes an emergency meeting of the emergency committee on 22 January, which will have to assess the threat of a new virus and will develop recommendations for combating it.
In the meantime, WHO provides several standard recommendations for the general public:
- wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based;
- when coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a medical mask, napkin, sleeve or bent elbow;
- avoid unprotected close contact with someone who has symptoms of a cold or flu, and seek medical attention if you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath;
- when visiting live markets, avoid direct unprotected contact with animals and surfaces that animals may come into contact with;
- thoroughly prepare food, especially meat.
It is worth noting that in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Health and the Agency for Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-Being are implementing a number of measures to ensure the sanitary-epidemiological well-being of the population, and to prevent the occurrence and spread of this disease in our country.
In particular, in the border areas, special attention is paid to high-quality medical examination of fellow travelers passing through the sanitary-quarantine points. Patients with pneumonia and other acute respiratory diseases are isolated and hospitalized.
The readiness of medical institutions for the hospitalization of patients with suspected flu, acute respiratory infections and pneumonia is ensured, a reserve of drugs and disinfectants for the treatment of patients is created;
If patients with suspected severe types of influenza, acute respiratory infections and pneumonia are detected among passengers arriving from the PRC, sampling for laboratory tests is organized. In order to increase the level of knowledge of pilots, onboard conductors and railway conductors with the participation of specialists, explanatory works are being carried out for them of the clinic for the diseases of influenza, acute respiratory infections and acute pneumonia, their laboratory analysis, preventive measures and the fight against the epidemic.
