Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes international trade as an engine for inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction, and is an important way to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recognizing the need to join efforts to support the transition of Central Asian countries to more inclusive and sustainable growth models, UNDP, in cooperation with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and international development partners, will organize the Regional Conference “Productive Capacity, Trade and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Central Asia ”, which will be held in Tashkent on 25 November 2019.
The purpose of the conference is to provide a platform for discussing how productive capacity and trade can be used as an engine to achieve the SDGs (in particular, goals 8 and 12) in Central Asia. The conference will focus on discussing economic growth and trade in the region in the context of the SDGs, as well as sharing information on the necessary approaches and channels through which trade will contribute to achieving the goals related to decent employment and economic growth, as well as sustainable consumption and production .
The conference is organized by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Uzbekistan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The event will bring together regional and national partners from government agencies of Central Asian countries, the private sector and business organizations, representatives of research circles, as well as international partners working in the field of promoting economic growth, developing productive capacity and trade.
The conference will consist of plenary meetings organized around groups on several key topics:
-Trade and Sustainable Development: Trade policies that foster economic growth and decent employment
-Production capacity, Trade and the SDGs: Building promising production capacity, developing trade and increasing competitiveness
- Standards for sustainable (regional) agricultural trade and the implementation of the SDGs
- Trade Facilitation: Progress and Challenges
