Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Issues of developing Uzbek-Indian cooperation in the electricity, oil and gas and other areas of the fuel and energy complex (FEC) were considered during a meeting on 10 October 2019 at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting was attended by First Deputy Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan Santosh Jha.
The prospects of cooperation between the two countries in various areas of the fuel and energy sector were noted. In particular, in the oil and gas industry, the Indian company ONGC Videsh Limited is currently considering the possibility of participating in geological exploration at a number of investment blocks in Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the Indian side was presented with the goals and objectives set for the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan established in February this year, as well as the main stages of reforming the fuel and energy sector, which are currently being implemented.
It was noted that the Ministry of Energy carries out state regulation of the processes of production, transmission, distribution and consumption of electric and thermal energy, coal, as well as the extraction, processing, transportation, distribution, sale and use of oil, gas and products of their processing.
The Indian side was presented with the opportunity to participate in investment projects in the energy sector, taking into account that the forecast for annual growth in electricity consumption in Uzbekistan is about 6-7%, and by 2030 it is necessary to ensure the guaranteed generation of 121 billion kWh of electricity and, accordingly, 31.8 GW generating capacity.
