Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AGMK) plans to ship several batches of high-quality cement to Afghanistan by the end of the year, the company’s press service said.
In mid-July 2019, the plant signed a number of contracts for the supply of these products to Afghanistan. Cement will be used in the construction of infrastructure and social facilities in several regions of the country. Deliveries will be made from the Jizzakh and Sherabad cement plants that are part of the structure of the AGMK.
"The interest of Afghan companies in domestic cement is due to several factors. First, Sherabad cement plant is by far the southernmost enterprise in the country producing such products. Therefore, transportation costs and delivery times for cement to Afghanistan are shorter than other manufactures. Moreover, the industrial facility is located in the center of the logistics hub, which has a wide range of possibilities for the delivery of goods by any means of transport,” the press service said.
In March this year, the AGMK, within the framework of a contract concluded with the trading company Hamid Company LTD, sent the first test batch of gray cement to the Mazar-e-Sharif station. These were 15 railway cars with 960 tonnes of products from the Sherabad cement plant.
In addition, the company is actively increasing exports to neighboring countries. For example, the Jizzakh cement factory has already exported over 1,599 tonnes of white cement to Tajikistan, 1,280 tonnes to Kyrgyzstan, 512 tonnes to Kazakhstan and 147 tonnes to Turkmenistan.
In total, over the first half of 2019, the plant exported over 28 thousand tonnes of cement products for more than US$1.6 million.
The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine is the only copper producer in Uzbekistan. The company produces refined copper, metallic zinc, molybdenum, lead concentrate and other products.
The AGMK accounts for about 90% of silver production and 20% of gold in the republic. Since August 2018, the state share in the enterprise was transferred to the trust management of the foreign company SFI Management Group.
