Brussels to host a High-level Political and Security Dialogue

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 May, Brussels will host a High-level Political and Security Dialogue between the European Union and the countries of Central Asia.

A delegation of Uzbekistan will be headed by Farrukh Tursunov, head of the Main Department for Strategic Analysis and Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting will be chaired by the Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service, Jean-Christophe Belliard.

The high-level dialogue on political and security issues reflects mutual interest of the European Union and Central Asian countries to maintain an open exchange of views and develop security cooperation. This platform is an important element of bilateral contacts between Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries in cooperation with the European Union.

The focus of the current discussions will again be on such important issues as countering terrorism and violent extremism, strengthening cooperation in countering illicit drug trafficking and border management. It is planned to consider issues of the regional and international agenda, where initiatives of Uzbekistan, as well as ensuring stability in Afghanistan, play an ever-increasing role.
