Measures to accelerate the creation of “green coverings” in the drying areas of Aral Sea approved
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A government resolution was adopted on measures to accelerate the creation of “green coverings” - protective forest plantations in the drying areas of the Aral Sea bottom.”
As noted in the resolution, as a result of the acceleration of drying out and salinization of the sea in recent years, about 50 thousand hectares of acreage have become unsuitable in agriculture. The Aralkum desert, covering an area of more than 5.5 million hectares, appeared in place of the dried-up sea.
In accordance with the resolution, forest will be created at the bottom of the drying Aral Sea.
During 2019, 100 billion soums will be allocated to the creation of forest plantations.
In addition, in the drying up territory of the Aral Sea, in 2019, protective forest plantings will be created on an area of 500 thousand hectares.
