Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 February, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with the delegation of the Alshaya Group, led by the executive director Mohammed al-Shaya, who is also the chairman of a large construction company Mabanee Company SAK.
The Alshaya Group is a multinational retail franchise operator and is widely represented in the Middle East, North Africa, Russia, Turkey and Europe.
The Alshaya Group’s assets pool includes, among others, companies in the areas of real estate, construction, tourism infrastructure and automobile trading.
The goal of the talks was to discuss the prospects for the holding’s investment presence in Uzbekistan, particularly in the tourism industry.
It was noted that infrastructure, governmental support to expand foreign economic relations, reforms and created favourable conditions makes Uzbekistan as one of the most promising regions of Central Asia.
The delegation of Alshaya Group expressed a special interest in the development of the hotel business: both through the construction of new buildings and the possibility of privatizing existing facilities that need renovation for further use. One of these objects could be the hotel "Uzbekistan".
The leadership of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade informed the guests that the Government approved the Tourism Development Concept for 2019-2025, which envisages the development of tourist infrastructure, the formation of an accessible and comfortable tourist environment, the development of transport logistics, the expansion of external and internal routes, and the improvement of transport services. .
Currently in the country in total there are 910 hotel facilities and accommodation facilities. Due to the increasing flow of tourists into the country and the growing interest of foreign investors, it is planned to increase the hotel facilities network to 3,000 in the country by 2025. To this end, project participants are provided with appropriate benefits and preferences.
Also, the delegation was presented projects for the construction of a ski resort and a cable car on the territory of the special tourism zone Chorvok and the tourist zone Kadimiy Bukhoro and discussed proposals for the possibility of cooperation.
