Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the Director General of the UzAtom Jurabek Mirzamakhmoudov visited Ukraine with the aim of familiarizing with the Ukrainian experience in the field of nuclear energy. This was reported by the press service of the Uzatom Agency.
During the visit on 27 November, the Uzbek delegation visited the Khmelnitsky languid power station, where representatives of Uzatom visited the training center, the engine room, the unit control panel of the existing power unit and visited the construction site of the power unit No. 3.
On 28 November, a meeting of the delegation with the President of the State Enterprise National Nuclear Power Generating Company Energoatom (NAEK Energoatom) Yury Nedashkovsky with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Ukraine Alisher Abdualiyev and the Chairman of the Board of Kyivsky JSC took place at the central office of Energoatom.
“We welcome Uzbekistan’s plans to develop nuclear energy and build the country’s first nuclear power plant,” said Yury Nedashkovsky during the talks. “I hope that the experience of Energoatom in the creation of a national infrastructure for the maintenance and operation of nuclear power plants will be of interest to Uzbekistan.
He also noted that Energoatom has ample opportunities to train highly qualified NPP personnel - a unique training center operates at the Zaporizhzhya station. It includes a full-scale simulator of an atomic power unit built using real equipment. This makes it possible to train specialists in the operation of nuclear power plants, as well as maintenance and maintenance personnel for nuclear power plants.
Yuri Nedashkovsky also stressed that Energoatom is the only VVER-1000 reactor operator in the world that has two suppliers of fresh nuclear fuel.
“We have done the most difficult work to diversify the sources of fresh nuclear fuel, and today, 6 out of 15 power units of Ukrainian NPPs are loaded with fuel from the American company Westinghouse. Now Energoatom and Westinghouse are working to expand the supply of fuel to other Ukrainian power units. The presence of two suppliers guarantees Energoatom the reliability of nuclear fuel supplies, and the real competition between manufacturers has a positive effect on the quality and cost of fuel assemblies,”Nedashkovsky said.
The Director General of Uzatom, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, thanked the head of Energoatom for organizing the study visit of the Uzbek delegation to the Khmelnitsky NPP and noted the interest in cooperation with Ukrainian specialists in the development of nuclear energy in Uzbekistan.
“We are faced with the task of studying the experience of countries that are already operating nuclear power plants, in order to provide quality training and organization of a project to build a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan,” said Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov.
He also noted the interest of the Uzbek side in cooperation with Energoatom in the field of personnel training and the involvement of specialists from Ukrainian design organizations with experience in designing nuclear power facilities.
Within the framework of bilateral cooperation, issues of cooperation in the issues of personnel training for nuclear power plants of the Republic of Uzbekistan are being considered. In addition, cooperation has already begun with the Kiev Research and Design Institute "Energoproekt", whose specialists are involved in choosing a site for the Uzbek nuclear power plant.
