A draft law “On state genomic registration” discussed in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Committee of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on legislation and judicial-legal issues in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan held a roundtable to discuss a draft law “On state genomic registration” on 5 February 2014.
The draft law sets legal foundation for creation of national base of DNA data (genomic information).
MPs of Legislative Chamber, representatives of Supreme Court, General Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Interior Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Healthcare, Science Academy and others participated in the event.
The press service of the Legislative Chamber said that use of modern technologies is important in solving heavy crimes. Use of DNA data helps to investigate and prevent crimes. It is necessary to create DNA database of separate of category of people, who can commit crimes.
Genomic registration envisages to receive genomic information, which is a private secret of the citizens, and it requires to regulate storage of private DNK data with the special legislation. The participants said that the draft law will help to improve judicial expertise directed at ensuring objective investigation of crimes and ensure protection of rights and interests of people.
At the end of the roundtable, the participants developed proposals and recommendations, directed at further improving the draft law.
